Why pay more for a High Availability
solution,
if all you need is a Disaster Recovery
solution?
Simple Object Replicator (SOR) provides an affordable disaster recovery solution to AS/400 administrators at a cost that is far less than most high availability products. SOR makes it affordable for even small businesses to implement a hot site disaster recovery solution.
SOR replicates objects from one IBM AS/400, iSeries, or System i to another. SOR works best at replicating database files, data areas, and data queues on a static system, where a static system is defined as one in which the objects being replicated are not frequently deleted and re-created. Even though SOR works best on static systems, SOR can also work on most systems where the replicated objects do get deleted and re-created. SOR can also replicate other objects such as programs and display files.
SOR provides a simple, easy to use interface for you to manage the replication of objects on your system. SOR is designed to look and feel much like PDM, which is a familiar interface for many users.
SOR is designed to perform all of the tasks associated with preparing objects for replication. You do not need to know how to create or manage journals and receivers, SOR does all of this for you.
SOR is a proven data replication product with its first installation occurring in July, 2005.
Why pay more for a High
Availability solution,
if all you need is a Disaster Recovery
solution?
SOR is NOT high availability software. SOR is
data replication software.
True high availability software gives you the ability to load
PTFs and perform OS upgrades on the primary system while users
operate on the secondary system. A planned transition can be
made to switch operations over to the secondary system with
little down time for users. Once the OS upgrade or PTF load is
completed, and all data changes have been propagated to the
primary system, another planned transition can be made to
switch the users back again. This requires the
secondary system to be configured the same as the primary
system so that it can support a normal work load while
maintaining the same level of operations and response times as
the primary system.
Data replication software provides you a hot site backup
system with current data to be used in the event of a disaster
or other long-term outage. A hot site backup system
allows you to be operational within a short amount of time with
fairly current data, as opposed to being down for several hours
or days while the most recent backup tapes are delivered and
restored onto a backup system. Often, companies are able
to utilize a smaller system for their disaster recovery
solution because it is understood that in the event of a true
disaster, the company will most likely be operating at a
reduced capacity and will not have the need for as large a
system as normal.
Most small to medium sized businesses have no real need for a high availability solution. They can accommodate the few hours of planned down time each year that is necessary for loading PTFs or performing the occasional OS upgrade. What most small to medium sized businesses really need is the ability to continue their business operations after a disaster. SOR can provide that capability to them at a fraction of the cost of most high availability solutions.

If you are just looking to implement a disaster recovery plan
that allows your business to continue operating after a
disaster, SOR is the right product for you at a price that
won't hurt your budget.
Simple Object
Replicator is SIMPLE TO INSTALL, and SIMPLE TO
OPERATE & MAINTAIN.
SOR is simply the best low-cost disaster recovery solution for
AS/400, iSeries and System i!
How does SOR work? A remote journal environment is established between your production system and your disaster recovery system. SOR reads entries from the remote journal receivers on the disaster recovery system and "applies" the information in each journal entry to a replicated copy of the appropriate object. It's that simple!
